19th Century Country Pipe Box
This is a nicely crafted, primitive hanging pipe box with a tall back, shaped sides, and a deep well, made in the 1800’s with square nails. Its surface is untouched, dry, dark spanish red paint, with a mellow patina. Often pipe boxes were used to store washed pipes. After use they were washed and stored away. Some people, instead of washing the pipes, would just break of a small piece of the tip so that the next person using the pipe would have a clean tip.

Measures 16″ to the top, 6″ wide, x 4 1/2″ deep, 6″ to the top of the well. It has a hanging hole at the top. Used for storing clay pipes, and found in New Hampshire. An authentic early country primitive! Price: pipe box is sold(pipes available for 35.00 each)

The Best Heart Shaped Cutting board, original green paint

A wonderful, early cutting board, bread board in the shape of a heart with the absolute best green painted surface. This board is all hand carved and even the little handle is carved out of the wood, not attached. Notice the board even has a shallow drip tray going all around the heart. The cutting board measures 10″ x 10″.

The Best 19th. century Bright Green Painted Firkin

A lovely early firkin, all done up in the best bright green paint. The paint on this firkin makes it so striking. It also is constructed with copper nails, no staples. Lapped bands, button handle attachments and a thick lid. The size of the firkin, 10″ tall, 9 1/2″ diameter top and a 10″ diameter bottom. Two small areas of splintering. Magnificent 18th. Century Large Lantern, all original

A fabulous, all original 18th. century, oversized lantern. The presence of this lantern speaks age, times past and such extraordinary craftsmanship. The fact that it has endured all these years is a real testimony to the practicality of early design and the necessity of preserving these utilitarian items. Light was so precious and ways to preserve it and utilize it were primary concerns of people from times past. This particular lantern housed an candle stick. It could be carried wherever needed and kept light burning, most likely outside or inside of an out building. The frame is wood. I believe all the panels are original because the early putty is used on ever panel to secure the glass in place. Please not there is a small crack, with tiny piece of glass missing on the back left, bottom side of the glass panel. Notice how beautifully the inside floor is hollowed out to wrap the candle stick. The bottom is on a small raised platform. I believe the handle was re-attached many years ago. To me it looks as if the original screws holding the handles are still present and other screws were used to re-attach a somewhat shortened handle. The lantern is extraordinary and has the absolute best look. It comes with the candlestick in the photo. Not original to the piece but I love the contrast in materials. The lantern measures 9 x 9 1/2 x 12 inches. The hood and handle add an additional 5 1/2 inches. A crowning jewel to any lighting collection. Price: sale pending

Outstanding, Large Dough Bowl with original Paint and Patina

An absolutely fine dough bowl sporting a wide turned rim. The bowl in all of its perfection measures 18″ one way and 19″ the other and stands 6″ tall. The warp is lovely but better than that is the surface of this fine bowl. Original paint that appears to be a dark blue and much surface wear and patina make the outside of the bowl a piece of art work. Please note there is a very tight hairline in the bowl, see photos. It is so tight and secure it is actually a bit hard to see. This bowl will not disappoint.

An early Chestnut wood trencher that is hand carved and vibrant with color and character. The natural age to this beautiful chestnut wood exhibits a variation of colors that make the appearance so desirable. This trencher is a rare, small size with great wear and patina. The trencher measures 17 1/2″ long x 6 3/4″ wide x 3″ tall. This lovely piece of treen dates to the late 18th, early 19th. century and is New England in origin.

A very unusual scrub box/knife box. This box has a large, canted work surface. It also has a sweet little storage compartment in the side of the box. The scrub box measures 13 1/2″ x 7 3/4″ x 3 1/2″. The surface is so well worn and water worn from use. Square nail construction. It is perfection.

A 19th c. Paint Decorated American Wooden Apple Box with wonderful dovetail and pegged construction on all sides. A square base supports a canted bowl. Has an old repair (see photos) and now in good order. Displays beautifully on the table. Measurement: 11 1/4″ square 1840-1860. I love this style apple box, it is truly the earliest form. The Make-Do repair is just best and adds so much to the authenticity of the apple box. This apple box still has its totally original red painted surface. You will love this box.

I just love these three books stacked. The covers are a speckled black and ochre color with the bottom most book being plain black. The bottom book measures 11 3/4 x 7 1/2 inches. The top tow books measure 7 x 10 inches. The top two books are not in English and the bottom book is a music book. This period noggin has many wonderful characteristics, the size, great form, very finely cut spout and the very best of all is the surface. The way this piece has aged during the last 150+ years is remarkable. With every turn of the noggin you see various changes in the coloration. Ranging from a charcoal color to a reddish brown—all subtly soft and transparent. Obtained only by years and years of wear. The spout on this noggin is extremely thin which is just an added detail of craftsmanship. Please note the very tight hairline, visible in the photos. A wonderful dated table box done in all original paint. The front panel of the box is beautifully decorated in red paint with a delicate scroll and the bold date of 1866. The sides and back of the box are the same red paint as on the front and the top of the box is an outstanding putty grey paint. The box measures 12 x 6 x 5 inches. Fabulous, fabulous original green paint on the early 19th. century wall box. This lovely wall box is Pine wood. The wall box is cut very fine with thin wood cut on an early band saw. Constructed with tiny hand forged cut nails, original Windsor Green paint with great oxidation to the paint, canted and scrolled sides with a well or pocket for a box. . The wall box has a very unusual scalloped back crest board. The overall size of the box is 8 1/2 x 11 1/2 inches. There are no repairs or restorations to this box.

Wonderful Early Compass

An unusual decorative piece. This compass is housed in a nice wooden case. The compass is surrounded with detailed paper appliques. I don’t know too much about this compass. I purchased it because of the decorative value and used it sitting in a small vignette of books, glasses and a candle stick. It looks just wonderful. I know the latch is missing from the front of the case. I do believe the rest of it is complete and in good condition. The compass measures 2 1/4″ x 3″ x 3/4 ” thick.

American, possibly Pennsylvania, Circa 1740-1760. It is very rare to find sheet iron sticks that have retained their original paint. This great stick is nearly PERFECT, with only the wear, tear and minimal paint loss you would expect from over 250 years of use. One of the BEST sand weighted candlesticks I have owned. A very unusual 1800s tin, hand made birdcage. All hand made soldered metal birdcage with period stuffed canary.The tubes of this cage are made similar to candle molds of the day.The birdcage measures about 11″ tall & 8 1/2″ in diameter. It has a sliding door with one tube extending through the top of the cage.its in great condition with no bends cracks or broken joints.it appears to be made of reused material because of all different stampings on the tubes and even handle. An absolutely wonderful double arm 19th. century candle stand. This is such an outstanding piece with great presence. A wooden floor or table double socket candle stand with threaded center post. The light is constructed with maple wood with 3 ash turned legs. The center post is fastened into the base with wooden pegs. Note how the center column is pegged into the base of the light. the center post is 1 1/2″ in diameter. the overall size of the candle stand is 31 1/2″ tall and 17″ across the double arms. The candle arms are iron with tin candle cups and drip pans. Very good original condition. Please note that one candle cup is smaller than the other. I believe believe both cups are original, so either made that way or altered during the life of this great light. I mention this for accuracy, it does not detract from the beauty of this stand. A wonderful American, New England hanging candle box. From the late 18th. century or early 19th. century. The construction of this candle box is very, very fine having very small dovetail construction, original brass hinges, original patina and finish. the candle box measures 10 3/4″ long, 4 7/8″ deep, 7 1/4″ tall. The candle box is in excellent condition but for a very small sliver of wood that is missing on the right corner of the lid. Other than that small flaw the box is in pristine condition.

SPECTACULAR HEART HANDLED 19TH CENTURY WOODEN APPLE TRAY IN ORIGINAL BLUE PAINT – This piece has such early form and spectacular paint that it absolutely gives you goose bumps just looking at it! The apple tray was made using tight side to side construction with primarily small square nails. Having top measurements of 23” long and 16” wide with bottom measurements of 17 ½” long and 11 ½” wide, it has strong canted sides that are 3” tall. Each end has a carrying handle that is shaped in the form of a beautiful well-defined heart. The tray is decorated in electric dry blue paint. Nearly two hundred years old, the apple tray that is still solid and sturdy shows desired signs of wear and use especially in the bottom where there is an uneven separation at the seam (approximately 1/4″ wide). Blue and White Gingham Checked Pinafore/Apron

Well well…. this wonderful blue and white check full apron/pinafore with sleeves is just wonderful! Blue and white small check homespun cotton fabric. It has been in a private collection for over 30 years.

Here are the details: 11 buttons/buttonholes (handmade) down the back…. It measures 48″ from the top of the collar to the bottom…down the front. The sleeves are 16.5″ from the shoulder to the end of the cuff…. 14″ across the shoulders in front….83″ around the bottom. When you look on the inside, you can see the orig. width of fabric used…it is 24″ wide. There are some holes…not horrible… and one mend. Looks like it was sewn with a treddle machine….but done very well. The sashes are each 28″ long. There is fading down the front.. This gal really used this and worked hard in it!! If it could only talk!! 2 pockets in front.

I picked this great box up in Pa. last Sept. I have been using it ever since but have decided to put it on the site. I just love it. So useful for storage and has a wonderful look and blue paint. I would date the box between 1890-1930. Great drawers for storage and a nice slot or opening for letters, bills etc. The box has wonderfully aged blue paint with great crackle. I just love this early 1900’s late 1800’s folk art painting of a do and cat. Taken right from a real home setting you can just picture these two pets side by side on the blue mohair sofa that is covered with crocheted doilies etc. very well executed with great color and such interesting subject matter. The painting is signed on the back. The painting measures 14 x 20 inches. It is in very good condition. It comes unframed. Signed in the lower right corner and on the back.

M. Simons pewter coffee pot. Nice and early. The bottom is stamped M. Simons, March 17 1868 . the pot has wonderful detail, finial and decorations around the spout and handle. The pot stands about 10 1/2 inches to the top of the finial and about 8 1/2 inches from spout to handle.

An exceptional 19th. century Paul Revere lantern with extensive punch decoration. in excellent condition. All of the hinges look to be original with no resolder. the lantern houses a candle up that is cleated thru the bottom of the lantern. A nice sign of a good early lantern. Hanging ring and smoke hood are all original. The lantern measures 15″ x 15 1/2″. When the candle is lit the lantern has a marvelous glow because of the extensive punched tin. $325.00

The Best Hanging Wall Cupboard with the BEST Mustard Paint

This wall cupboard makes quite a statement both in form and color. The cupboard has two door and within are 3 shelves for display or storage. The top shelf is divided at the middle. A nice open shelf on the bottom of the cupboard is perfect for display. The top has a nice, soft scalloped design. The paint on the cupboard is wonderful. It is very old if not original to the cupboard and stands out being a nice strong mustard yellow color. The mustard paint is over an oyster undercoat. The inside of the cupboard is painted white.. The backboard of the cupboard is Indurated Fibre Board which was used in the late 1800’s.The cabinet is 29 ¼” to the top of the back board valance. The cabinet proper is 26 x 19 x 6 ¾” deep. The 1st shelf down from the top compartments are 8 ¾” x 8 ¾”; the middle shelf is 18 x 5 ½”; The 2nd shelf is 18 x 4 ½”; and the bottom shelf is 18 x 5 ½”. I would date this cupboard to the late 1800’s/early 1900’s. Price: sold

Pre Civil War 19th Century Tie On Calico Pocket Before the day of stitching pockets into garments, women and girls wore tie-on pockets made of cloth under their skirts. Pockets of this type were worn in the 18th Century into the early to mid 19th Century. Perhaps even later in some areas. The pockets not only held small sewing tools but other important necessaries, such as a key, and were easy accessible through a partially open seam at the side of the skirt. Pockets were plain, maybe of homespun, or could be embellished with fine needlework. The Gatherings is offering an early to mid 19th Century tie on pocket made of a brown calico. The ties are of twill and homespun. The pocket is completely handstitched. Size is 10″ across the top to the ties. The length of each tie is 25″ long. Condition: For the age extremely nice. The only flaw is a break in the fabric back at the the center where it has been folded all these years. The flaw is a slit measuring 1/4″ long. See Photo. Price: $345.00

Painted Pantry Box, the best red/green paint

A most unusual item. This is definitely a pantry box but made for some very specific purpose. The spool attachment sits on the top of the pantry box and is actually secured thru the lid and has a tin plate on the underside of the lid. The pantry box itself has wonderful age, a very thick wood construction and the best possible paint. The paint is red and green with great age and patina. The box is in wonderful condition and measures 7″ x 3″. With the spindle the height is 6 1/2 inches. To me this piece has a definite Shaker look and feel about it.

Gorgeous and Rare Treenware Side Plate

From the early 19th century, probably 1800 – 1820, this is an early and rare treenware side plate. Made from dry ash wood, the plate is only 6” in diameter. A utilitarian piece, it was obviously used regularly as an eating side plate and washed so many times that it has worn down the incised lines. The graining is particularly strong with beautiful visibility on both the front (pictures 3-5) and back (pictures 6-9). Having survived approximately 200 years, this side plate is in remarkable condition with desired signs of wear and use but no hairlines or cracks. sold

This is a beautiful late 19th century homespun bonnet in a gorgeous blue check. The bonnet has two ties-one for the chin and the other underneath the bouffant style cap. Measuring approximately 24″, the front of the bonnet is complemented with a 6” floppy brim and the back is graced with a 9” fall. Extraordinary 19thC mortised, country Pinewood utensil rack from the Estate of Foster & Muriel McCarl of Beaver Falls, PA. Signed “R.G.” on the side in old Red paint. Folky heart design with tombstone shoulders and beautifully carved feet. It stands approx 27″ tall, 21″ long and 9.5″ across the feet Ends are 4″ wide. 5 holes measuring 1.25-1.75″ in diameter. Even the lower platform is carved out for the handles to rest! Slight sway from side to side (because it’s mortised)but totally stable and useable with no cracks or repairs. The best, larger sized treen canister. It is too large to be sugar bowl and was most likely a storage canister. It measures about 8″ tall and 6″ in diameter. This lovely canister has quite a bit or its original mustard paint. It is really in excellent condition with only a stable crack in the lid and one on the body of the canister, see photos. This fabulous tankard is made with vertical staves. The handle is actually pat of a stave. Wide bentwood bands with interlocking construction hold this tankard together. Sitting on top of the tidy is a tin Schuylkill Navigation Co. betty lamp.THE LAMP IS FROM THE 20TH CENTURY AND IS A VERSION OF THE CAST IRON ONES MADE IN THE 19TH CENTURY. THIS ONE WAS MADE LATER. THE SCHUYLKILL NAVIGATION COMPANY FIRST OPENED IN 1825 TO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION AND WATER POWER. THE COMPANY STARTED IN POTTSVILLE AND WENT TO PORT CLINTON AND THEN TO PHILADELPHIA AND ALSO TO NEW YORK. This lamp came from LEESPORT, PA WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN BETWEEN POTTSVILLE AND PHILADELPHIA. A wonderful 19th. century cheese drainer. The cheese drainer has the absolute best surface. It almost looks like it is painted but I believe it is that wonderful soft color from all of the years of use. The cheese process literally bleached out the surface of the wood. The cheese drainer has lovely canted sides and measures 17 x 16 x 5 1/2 inches. The construction is of square nails with rounds added years ago for reinforcement. A great centerpiece box.

This is a wonderful early BUTTER CHURN in a magnificent shade of dry grey blue paint that is old and original. The entire butter churn is nearly four feet tall with a body that stands approximately 24” tall and a dasher that extends an additional 22” inches. The bottom diameter of approximately 10 ½” slims to a top diameter 8 1/2” giving this butter churn an early canted shape. Constructed of tight wooden staves, the early churn has five metal bands and a hand chamfered bottom. The lid and dasher, believed to be original, show signs of wear and use with the lid having a gnawed section and the dasher having an old glue repair. A great primitive piece! Sold

Rare Early Wrought Iron Adjustable Betty Lamp Floor Stand.

Constructed entirely of hand wrought iron. This floor stand features a tall upright iron shaft resting on three curved legs with pointed penny feet. The Betty lamp is attached to the upright with a tensioned spring that allows the height of the lamp to be adjusted up or down the length of it. It also allows it to swivel around the upright to any position. There have been several opinions over the years on what the purpose of the iron ring was. Two notable experts, Sorber and Schiffer, felt sure it was intended as a trivet to hold a rush light or chamberstick. Late 18th to early 19th century. Discovered 20 years ago in Chester County, Pennsylvania but could have originated anywhere in the Mid-Atlantic or New England regions.

This Betty Lamp Stand has an incredible untouched surface and patina. It is in excellent untouched condition. The iron ring has two pins with a slot in them and one hole were one may be missing. There is no pick for the Betty lamp only the attached chain from which there was a pick at one time.

This lamp measures 49 1/8″ tall. The base is about 14″ in diameter.

Included with the lamp is a 19th. century tin chamberstick, fits perfectly on the trivet shelf on the lamp. A most unusual lamp–striking, charming, primitive and useful.

A wonderful, early cheese ladder. Appears to be made of walnut wood, mortised and tenon construction. Cheese ladders , sometimes called tongswere a staple part of cheese making. Research indicates that a cheese tub was placed beneath the CHEESE FAT, which rested on a CHEESE LADDER placed across the lower vessel. Into the vat went the curds. These were then squeezed to remove the WHEY, which fell into the cheese tub. Almost every home had a cheese ladder. Cheese curds were one of the most popular homemade treats in the 1700s. This cheese ladders is just beautiful. It measures 18 1/2 x 8 1/2 x 1/4 inches.

Civil War Memory Table Rug/Table Mat, Corp Badge, X11 Corps, Army of the Potomac

I am so thrilled to be offering this wonderful piece of folk art and history. This wonderful table mat is from the period of the Civil War. It is a small braided table rug. The center of the mat is decorated with 5 GP Infantry buttons and a centerpiece badge that I believe is a Corps Badge, from the uniform of a Union soldier who served in the X11 Corps, Army of the Potomac. When I purchased this mat there were only two GP Infantry buttons, three were missing. I purchased three and have them photographed with the mat where they would have been placed. I did not stitch them on but they will come with the rug. I didn’t want to destroy the original, as found condition of the mat. In the very center of the rug is a cut out star. This, I believe is from the XII Corps, Army of the Potomac. Upon researching the star I found reference to Corp Badge information on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Civil_War_Corps_Badges. This information is directly from Wikipedia “Corps badges in the American Civil War were originally worn by soldiers of the Union Army on the top of their army forage cap (kepi), left side of the hat, or over their left breast. The idea is attributed to Maj. Gen. Philip Kearny, who ordered the men in his division to sew a two-inch square of red cloth on their hats to avoid confusion on the battlefield. This idea was adopted by Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker after he assumed command of the Army of the Potomac, so any soldier could be identified at a distance.
Maj. Gen. Daniel Butterfield, Hooker’s chief of staff, was assigned the task of designing a distinctive shape for each corps badge. Butterfield also designated that each division in the corps should have a variation of the corps badge in a different color. Division badges were colored as follows:
Red — First division of corps
White — Second division of corps
Blue — Third division of corps
These were used in the United States’ Army of the Potomac. For the most part, these rules were adopted by other Union Armies, however it was not universal. ” The history and sentiment of this memory rug/mat is just staggering and heartfelt.

So unusual to find a Copper Paul Revere Lantern, most are tin. Great original patina, never been cleaned. The condition is excellent. This lantern originally came from an Amish farm in Lancaster, Pa. This is an early SCRUB BOX decorated in fantastic old blue milk paint over original oyster white paint. Constructed of early square nails, the box does have some well oxidized round nail additions. Having a thick and chunky form, it measures approximately 10 ½” long by 8” wide. The scrub box has authentic age with visible signs where it has worn down to the wood. Lye soap residue is also present as testament to its use. The scrub board is in solid and sturdy condition.

This is the first time I have ever come across a set of 4, all matching, by the same blacksmith, wall candle spikes. A set of two is fabulous but here is a rare opportunity to purchase a set of 4. Such a rare occurrence and as a special attribute they still have original gold, gilt paint. All pieces were by the hand of the same blacksmith. Most likely Penna, or Ct. origin. When you look at the photos you will see that two tips of the spikes are broken off a bit. Not enough to hinder the functionality of the sconces. The spikes stick out from the wall about 7 1/2 inches. Each is 11 inches tall, the drip trays measure 5 inches in diameter. The candle cups measure 2 inches tall. Please also note that one of the candle cups is slightly different than the other three. The paint, the style everything about these sconces screams quality, age and original to the period. An Unusually Small Hexagon-Shaped Cheese Basket
Less than a century ago, nearly every family in the country owned a cow.They used the excess milk to make butter and cheese.Making the butter was not such a big chore, but making cheese was a long,drawn-out process. First, the milk had to be left in a warm place until it soured and formed curds. The hexagon-shaped cheese basketwas lined with cloth, filled with the curds, and placed on a rack over (cheese ladder)a vat that would catch the dripping whey. Later the curds were put into a cheese mold, and in due time, the family had homemade cheese. Because this is such a small basket, it may be assumed that it was just large enough for one family. That is what is so unusual about it, the size is quite rare. It has the original brown paint, the bottom is one piece of pine wood, There are 5 small splint separations on the underside, this wear resulted from the weight of cheese during the processing phase, it has in no way weakened the basket. This unusual mold is made in the shape of a Maltese cross, it has five sections, four of which are hinged to the fifth, the center. All of these sections were held in place with a band while the butter was being packed in. Wen the mold was opened the butter stood in a square with five sides stamped, each with a different design. This type of mold is truly unique and classified as rare in the Early American Wooden Ware Book by Mary Earle Gould. The Maltese mold measures 6″ square when open. When closed it measures 2 1/2″ tall and 2″ square. This mold has the original band and you can see the wonderful patina where the band rested thru the years.

Early 19th. century wrought iron Cellar Light/ Bakers Light

A very nice example of a late 1700’s or early 1800’s Cellar Light. Lights of this nature were used as Cellar Light or Bakers Lights. A pole was inserted into the handle to act as an extension. Hammered iron, turned handle and a hook for securing the light over an edge. the light measures 11 1/2″ long (includes the hook and the handle) and the candle plate measures 5″ x 4″. An excellent early piece of lighting. The best early construction. Notice how the iron is wrapped and pinned. Please note the wear thru spots on the candle plate.

Rare and Unusual Single arm Sconces, A Pair—mid 19th. century

A wonderful rare and unusual pair of 19th. century wall sconces. These sconces are very unusual with a tulip design. Such a rare form with candle drip caps that are fastened by hand forged tabs onto the candle holder. These lovely sconces are from the mid 1800’s. Completely hand forged and in excellent condition.The sconces measure 10″ tall and 7″ wide. They portray a commanding and strong presence.

19th. century Sauerkraut Barrel in the best blue paint–Springfield, Mo.

This is a super neat piece and extremely hard to find! It is a wooden sauerkraut barrel that has the following info stamped – some on the front and some on the back. 5 Gallon Lart Brand Sauerkraut 48/2 G.D. Milligan Bros Springfield Mo. According to some info I found on google, G.D. Milligan, who was a pioneer jobber in his line, started the grocery business on the east side of the square in Springfield Mo in the mid 1800s.
Kraut barrels are nearly obsolete! It is in good condition for it’s age with wonderful patina. It is a little wobbly but made to expand after it was soaked and holding liquid. Bands are rusty but in good shape. It is appx 13 1/4″ tall, 12″ across top and 13 1/2″ across bottom. The blue paint is much more prominent in reality as compared to the photos. The Sauerkraut barrel measures 13″ tall, 11 3/4″ diameter across the top and 14″ diameter across the bottom. Price: sold

Fabulous 1830-1850 Table Box w/Drawer, Original surface

This is one of my favorite lists for this month. A most unusual form. I would date this piece to 1830-1850. The surface is pristine. The form with the well and drawer is so unusual. Please notice how the drawer slides into the case. Normally you would expect to see a rail on each side for the drawer to slide on but this one is routed out and the drawer fits right in. Made with Bootjack legs. The best design and square nail construction. It measures 12″ wide, 15″ tall at the back, 9″ wide, 11″ tall at the front.

circa 1700’s Mahogany veneer Small Wall Mirror

A wonderful, 18th. century (1760-1780) small wall country mirror with original glass. This lovely mirror is framed in a Mahogany veneer frame. The backboard of the mirror is southern pine and hand chamfered. The mirror is original to the frame with a brass hanging hook. The hook has been moved but the mirror hangs straight. There is some age shrinkage cracks to the veneer but it is very stable. The mirror measures 6 1/4″ x 9 1/4″. The is a name on the back and it looks like T. Davy and M B Lowers. You don’t often find such a high country styled mirror such as this.

19th. Century Toleware, Tole Painted Gooseneck Coffeepot

This coffeepot is just wonderful, absolutely original tole painting in the best coffeepot form. The pot has completely original wear but with 95% of the paint present. Most of the loss is normal wear with the background paint. The flowers and decoration is just fabulous. Gooseneck form is just the best. AN EXTREMELY RARE 18th CENTURY WROUGHT IRON HANGING CANDLE HOLDER OR LOOM LIGHT WITH A ROLLED CANDLE CUP WITH A TWIST DECORATED “OFFSET” SHAFT. English or American, Circa 1710-1740 in OLD GRUNGY UNTOUCHED SURFACE AND CONDITION.

WONDERFUL EARLY FORM WITH A LONG TWIST DECORATED SHAFT WITH A GREAT CURLED SHEPHERDS CROOK HANGING HOOK. IT ENDS IN A TWISTED BOTTOM RAIL WITH TWO ROLLED AND SEAMED CANDLE CUPS WITH DRIP PANS. BOTH HAVE A RARE CLEAN OUT HOLE. ABOVE THAT IS ANOTHER HORIZONTAL TWISTED BAR (SMALLER) WITH A MODIFIED SPEAR DECORATION. THE HOLES ARE USED TO HOLD ADDITIONAL LIGHTING OR LIGHTING ACCESSORIES, betty lamps, CANDLES or extinguishers.

Often called a Pendant Candle Holder or Chandelier, these candle holders were made to hang from the ceiling beam and throw light onto the room for work. They were also used at desks and throughout the home where you needed portable light. This one however is a VERY LARGE LIGHT and HAS THE ADDED DECORATIVE WORK and was probably used either in a Church or a Tavern.

The surface is untouched and uncleaned. Great hand forged tool marks throughout.

A great early piece of 18th Century American Wrought Iron lighting.

34″ Tall, the bottom arm is 25″ across. The candle cups are 3 1/2″.

Most Unusual Country Primitive Meat Board

I just love this piece, I have never seen another like it. It is all hand hewn out of one piece of wood. The raised platform has individually cut holes and little pegs inserted in each hole, I think there is one missing. The fowl or meat was placed on the platform and held in place by the pegs and the dripping were held in the well around the platform. A real country treasure. The meatboard measures 12″ x 8″ x 2 1/4″.

Wonderful 19th. century Blue Painted Apple Tray

This is a wonderful late 19th century or possibly turn-of-the century wooden BLUE APPLE TRAY. Measuring 21 ½” long, 13” wide, and 3” deep this is a large tray that is well-crafted with beautiful form featuring canted sides and cut-out handles at each end. The apple tray is decorated in a gorgeous shade of dry and well oxidized blue green paint that appears to be over a slightly lighter shade of grayish blue paint. There are remnants of early plaster filler that was used as a nail cover and has worn off. While the tray does have desired signs of age and use, it is in tight and sturdy condition. 550.00 + shipping

Very Small Tabletop Wooden Butter Churn

This is the sweetest little butter churn, the smallest one I have seen. It measures only 14 1/2″ tall and with the dasher in it, it measures 26″ tall and the diameter of the churn is 5″. Please look at the pictures and notice the crack down the side of the churn and bottom. The surface is all original and the butter churn has the best country, primitive look.

MID 19TH CENTURY LOCKING SPICE BOX WITH SLIDING LID – This is an intriguing box with a sliding lid. When the lid slides shut, the box automatically locks. When the trigger on the bottom is pushed up, the box unlocks so the lid may slide open revealing two compartments. The box is 8” long, 5” wide, and 2 ¼” tall. The inside compartments are 4” and 3” long. This early box is well constructed using square nails, a hand chamfered lid and thick maple walls. Unusually Painted Treen Dough Bowl, Red/Mustard Decoration

This dough bowl is so unusual with applied paint being a red/brown background with mustard painted splotches all over. A 19th. century painted bowl in original red/brown paint with mustard paint dappled over the surface. The bowl is made of chestnut and measures 14 1/2 x 13 1/4 x 3 5/8 inches. Great surface and great condition.

An unusual South East Pa. , Mennonite, inverted measure. Obviously made for a special purpose. The surface of this measure is so mellow. The measure has a handle and the measure measures 11″ x 11″ on the bottom and 8″ x 8″ on the top and measures about 6 3/4″ tall. Beautiful construction having dovetailed sides, square nails. There are several cracks in the wood but the measures is very sturdy. Please note the cracks in the photos.

Wonderful Original Red Paint Lift Lid, Drawers Storage Box

This box is truly wonderful with a primitive, folksy look. Hand made and uniquely designed. The chest has its original red paint and the edges are trimmed out with original black border. There are two drawers for storage and an unusual feature of a lift off lid. The box is made with square nails and was made around the 1840-1860 timeframe. The chest measures 18″ wide, 13 1/2″ tall and 17″ deep.

Early Flint Glass Standing Podium w/small book–table top

I have had this piece for many, many years. I love the size and the way it looks. It is a glass lecturn or podium and holds a very small book. I would date this piece to the late 1800’s. Please notice how the flat reading surface screws off from the base. It seems very unusual to me. This podium measures 10″ tall and the reading surface measures 7 1/2 x 5 1/4″. The condition is excellent. The book is included with the glass podium.

An absolutely magnificent piece of treen. A large American Revolutionary War period Canteen. The size of this canteen indicates it would have been used for a wagon or in a camp situation. So unusual for this canteen to still have its original stopper. The canteen is made of pine with maple bands. It has lapped band construction and there are holes for where there was once a carrying strap. This beautiful piece is most likely New Hampshire in origina and from the 18th. century.
