This is the best of boxes. The age, Early 1800’s or quite possibly late 1700’s, quality construction with dovetailed joints, original lock and heart shaped handles, double till inside the box, and last, but not least, the best , BEST, grain painting in the CLAM SHELL Design. This design was popular in the 1700’s and this box shows that design off just beautifully. I was told by the original owner of this box that if the lock on this box is signed the box could be worth over $6,000.00. I have no intention of removing the lock to find out but I think it just shows you a bit of the quality of this box. I just love the grain painting, look at the clam shell design. It is executed so beautifully. Even the back of this box is finished. The box has a slight dome top, two tills inside, dovetailed construction, clean and usable. The box measures 32″ x 15 1/2″ x 11″.
