Quite unusual example of a wooden wall sconce that holds a single candle. Very simple but elegant in design. It would have hung on the wall to provide light in a small area. The wall sconce has red/brown paint over the original light green. Both coats are very early and the green may have been used as a primer coat because it doesn’t appear to be on the edges of the sconce. The candle socket is round and is pegged into the shelf. The shelf is mortised and nailed to the backboard. The sconce measures 20 x 3 1/2 x 4 inches deep. The candle socket has burn marks from use. The wood is Pine. From a Rochester, NY collection.
