A most unusual, primitive matching pair of treen candle sconces. I believe the wood is Walnut. The sconces were hand made, most likely by a talented craftsman but not a skilled craftsman. Most likely made by the man of the house either as a gift or out of necessity for the family. One sconce seems to have been exposed to more heat or sunlight than the other sconce. It appears the finish is worn more on one sconce than the other. The difference is noticeable but when hung is not noticeable. Definitely a one of a kind pair and hand crafted. The bases are secured with wonderful early square nails. Circa mid 18th. To late 18th. Century, 1740-1780. The sconces measure 15” tall with a 3” x 5 1/4” candle socket base, there is a hole in top for hanging and a hole in center where a square nail held the lights in a secure vertical position, original tin candle sockets, notice how the candle cups are worn down from wear. These sconces are c.1780-1820. Came from a ME collection. Price: sold
