An unusual 18th. century piece of lighting you won’t see too often. This a very scarce relic of a Colonial America is a primitive lantern, it is in excellent condition. Previously owned by an Ohio antiques dealer in the 1940s, handed down to his son who passed it on to the trade. It maintains its original blood red paint. It appears to be original with even remnants of an old candle. The four bullseye’s are each hand blown. The lantern is unusual in that it has a primitive uplift mechanism for raising and lowering the candle holder to light it or to changed out. The lift candle is in working order. The lantern has Rosehead nail construction. It is a wonderful example of an 18th. century lantern. The lanten measures 8″H X 6″ X 6.” A collectors item for sure. Museum quality! All of the pontiled, bullseye panel are very secure. They are in there with caulking which would be period . Age, possibly heat has separated a little bit of one piece of glass, it is secure with no problems, please see photo. That is the only area where you can see any separation in the glass. No glass is loose. All of the nails are secure. I do not see any repairs and the paint looks good. The mechanism to bring, change or light the candle works fine and I believe the candle cup is wooden. Price: sold
