A fabulous 18th. century, untouched wood and glass hanging lantern. Most likely New England, Connecticut. The wood is Cherry wood and the lantern is circa 1790-1820. the lantern has the best original red painted surface that is dry and in excellent condition. The lantern is in Cherry wood and still has its original blown glass panels as well as the original hinged plank rear door. The wood door is an uncommon feature, usually all the sides are glass. The candle cup is rolled and seamed. The wire bale holder is original with its wood handle. The nails holding the corner pillars are original and appear to have never been removed. The surface is just fabulous, all original and untouched with the best old patina and wear. The glass panels are excellent but please note there is a very small crack in the upper left corner on one of the panels. The lantern does have some burn marks mostly on the inside and there is an old glued crack on the bottom. The lantern measures 11 inches tall, 16 inches with the handle and 7 inches square at the base. I love the short feet that elevate the lantern. the lantern has typical wear and imperfection from age and use. there are some old burn marks on the inside of the top and the top board has an old, but tight line from the heat.
