An early 18th. century Queen Anne Period hanging, slide lid table box or wall box with dovetailed case and carved fluted decorations on the bottom front with a sliding lid panel cut cover with an original heart shaped handle. The candle box is made of Native Cherry having the best original red painted surface. Most likely from Connecticut, circa 1710-1740. The entire box is made of America Cherry with a Pine backboard. The box has a shadow molded edge on the top with a nicely carved fluted design on the front of the bottom well. The Pine backboard is two boards with an integrated Hanging Handle. The sliding front panel is two board construction with its original “Heart” cut shaped handle at the top. Original red paint with old patina and wear. Nails are original, Rose Heads and hand wrought nails. Provenance is Connecticut Country. The sliding panel is two boards with a very old and minor loss at the bottom edge, see photo. There is also a very tight shrinkage line near the handle. The box is totally stable and usable. The box measures 14 1/2 inches tall, and 17 inches to the handle, 9 1/2 inches wide and 5 inches deep.
