A very nice small table or wall cupboard from the late 18th. or very early 19th. century. An American hanging cupboard made of Pine and Poplar having the best old Salmon Red and Black Feather Brain Painted surface and excellent patina. Most likely New England, circa 1790-1820. This hanging cupboard is in the best small size and measures 16 1/2 inches tall, 18 1/2 inches tall to the top of the hanger, 15 inches wide and 6 1/2 inches deep. The single panel cut door still has its original iron hinges and original brass pull. The interior has a single shelf. The cupboard is in Pale Salmon Red paint and the front has added black feather graining and a darkened varnish that is completely original to the piece. Construction is with early square nails and a hand planed surface. Notice the early construction on the front. The double edge moulding are planed right into the board rather than applied as you would see in 19th. c. examples. The back is a single plank which is original and the center hanger is part of the backboard. Minor damage and loss to the paint as evidenced in the photos. The iron lock is a later 19th. c. replacement. Price: sold

People on my email release get first peek at all the new monthly items before my ad comes out in the Maine Antique Digest.
