18th. century Retractable Armed Floor Light
This is a fine and one of the most authentically original floor lights I have had the privilege of owning. A beautiful New England piece, wooden floor light. The light has a beautifully threaded center post that is mortised into a slab type, 2 inch thick, base that sets up on three feet. The retractable arms have four candle sockets that are wooden, originally measuring about 3 inches. From left to right, the first candle cup is wooden and intact, the second cup is original and intact, the third candle cup has been almost completely burned down but can still hold a candle and the fourth candle cup was almost completely burnt and sometime during its life someone made a wrapped iron candle cup and attached it. Such wonderful wear and an authentic history of the lights life and use. The crossbar measures 15 1/4 inches and then each movable arm adds another 9 1/2 inches. The base measures 10 1/4 x 13 1/2 x 2 inches. The overall height of the light is 29 inches. The surface appears to be original in every way. Most likely New England and truly a treasure of an American light. Price: sold
