An excellent example of a 19th. century turned wood and brass whale oil lamp. Acquired from an old local museum out on Cape Cod, Mass. This is quite an unusual and seldom seen example being that it is a turned wood whale oil lamp. The treen lamp has the original sheep brass and tin burner all intact and the base has its original green “grained” painted surface. constructed of Maple wood, New England, circa 1829-1830 period. The base is turned out of Maple wood with a stepped pedestal bottom and a turned and then hollowed out shaft. The original sheet brass and collar is on top of the wood with the original tin screw in burner. The patina on this piece is incredible and the brass still has traces of the original gold gilding. It is in excellent condition with no repairs or losses but for minor loss to the paint from use. The bottom still retains the old tag from when it was purchased in the 1970’s. This sweet piece of American lighting measures 4 1/2 inches tall and the base measures 3 1/4 inches in diameter. Price: sold
