This is such an extraordinary piece of folk art. While I am not sure of the actual age I think I can be safe to date it to mid to late 19th. century. This Dove/Bird may have been part of a larger assembly, just not sure if it was part of a weathervane, whirligig or other folk art sculpture. The head of the bird moves and it appears there may have been eye inserts at one time. The bird is made of tin and the paint on this piece is impeccable, off white feathers with a soft gray/brown. Please note how the front part of the winds have tin overlay to give the appearance of feathers. When I purchased this piece of folk art I was told it was from the Mid West. Wing span is 23 inches, birds body 18 inches long and the overall height, including the stand is 15 inches. The paint on this piece is 99% there and original to the piece. Stand is included.
