I can’t say enough about this lovely piece of hand crafted treen from the 18th century. Besides its wonderful age, it is so finely crafted, buttery smooth and decorated with four hearts, initials and dated on the back side 1797. Truly a treasure made with love by the maker and loved by the receiver. These tokens of love permeate our early history. Most people only knew work so many emotions and feelings were tied to things that were used every day, this is a great example of one of them. I believe the wood is Maple and the photos speak for themselves with regards to the decoration. Each heart has a scored design and the initials and date are so well carved. The hearts and initials have a red stain or painted surface. I love the way it sits flat in a bowl. The spatula measures 12 inches long and the working surface measures 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches.
