This is such a sentimental and loving piece of 19th. century folk art. An Oil painting dated 1839 of young man. Underneath the image of the young man is an inscription “To the memory of Purvis Peterkin (hard to read) who died on December 8, 1839 at 12 years of age. The painting measures
14 x 16 1/2. It is Most likely of English origin, and I say this because on the back it has a label that says Flemish Ground Mill’d Boards prepared by G. Rowney & Co 51 Rathbone Place England. The painting is so well executed in a somewhat naive style. Appears to have its original Lemon Gilt frame. Price: sold
