A very nice 19th. century primitive American hanging or table on door cupboard. The cupboard is made of Pine wood and has its original Spanish Brown painted surface. The cupboard has unusual lollipops on both sides, a fully panel decorated door and the original engraved silver or silver plate escutcheon. Made of White Pine, Pennsylvania, circa 1860. The case is fully dovetailed and the triple cut outsides are fully intact. The cupboard still retains its original iron lock. The front of the door has applied triple molded pieces. The door is hinged with original wooden pintils that are fully functional. The surfaces are all hand planned and there are a mixture of wrought ad early wire nails. This cupboard has the look of a 18th. century cupboard and would fit into an 18th. c. collection quite nicely. Cupboards of this type were hung or placed on a table and usually kept food safe from varmints. The cupboard measures 14 inches wide, 9 1/2 inches deep and it stands 9 inches tall at the front and 13 1/2 inches to the top of the lollipop. There are minor imperfections from age and minor paint loss. The front door was cracked at some point. It has been repaired nicely with two wooden straps on the inside of the door that are pegged into the door. The repair is very secure. Price: sold
