18th. century Connecticut Hanging Pipe Box, Best Original Red Paint
A small sized, late 18th. century hanging pipe box with its original shaped top crest, applied single arch molding and still retaining its original drawer with its original brass pull. The pipe box is constructed of native Pine and has the best original, old dark Red Painted surface exhibiting great patina. Probably from Connecticut, circa 1760-1790 with early had forged nails. This pipe box is of an unusual small size. The top scrolled back is a classic Connecticut form that is often seen coming from that area. The drawer has butt joined sides and bottom and a flush fitting top. The brass ring/knob is original to the pipe box. The surface is just wonderful, dark red and completely original. The condition is excellent with only the loss of a sliver break out to the top front half round molding and this is from expected wear. The pipe box measures 11 3/4 inches tall and 4 3/4 inches across and about 4 inches deep. Price: sold
