As American piggin go this one is a 10+. Truly a wonderful example of an early 19th. century piggin. The construction is outstanding having wide wrapped wooden bands that are secured with rosehead nails–just something you don’t see very often. The piggin is signed on the bottom C.S. Hersey and also has some other information. The piggin has the best worn surface thru years of actual use. These treen objects were used for collecting food scraps that were save either for the garden compost or to feed to the animals. The condition of this piggin is excellent. It measures 9 x 7 x 5 1/2 inches. New England treenware. There is a Caleb S. Hersey. sold
