This is a great example of a late 18th. century sand timer. This timer has the thickest and heaviest glass I have come across, which makes the piece quite unusual and heavier than usual. The sand timer has both of the bulbs joined and wrapped with string and wax. 1760 is the year when the single or unitary “bulb” began to replace the earlier two-part bulb that had been conjoined by a combination of fiber and sealant. So this sand timer is dated around circa 1760 or before because it is of two conjoined bulbs. The sand is black and still runs slowly thru the two bulbs. The sand timer measures 7 inches tall and 4 inches in diameter. The surface is original and shows good patina. Pine wood. Price: sold

I update my merchandise on a regular basis but my big updates are around the end of every month. At that time I send out a slideshow featuring all of my new items. If you would like to receive the slideshow, send me an email and I will add your email address to the release. People on my email release get first peek at all the new monthly items before my ad comes out in the Maine Antique Digest. Most of the inventory I carry is 19th., 18th., and some 17th. century country primitives in original surface. I am an artist and I feature some of my original works on the site as well.
