A Small Treasure, Unusual Painted, Initialed, Dated, Carved Slide Lid Box
This is an outstanding, unusual and wonderful small slide lid box. Good things come in small sizes and this is a perfect example. The box is quite small and measures 5 1/4″ tall when standing up on end with the slide lid on the top. I believe this is the way the box has been sitting for the past 125 +years because if you look at the underside you will notice the beautiful bright blue paint that has had no exposure to light, this was the original color of the box when made. So the box measures 5 1/4 inches tall x 4 inches wide and 3 1/2 inches deep. Every surface of this box is decorated. The box has its original blue paint, each side has a design. One side a painted star, another side painted initials, another side the dated 1863 and the last side has a carved design. The only surface without paint or decoration is the slide lid and it is beautiful in its own way due to the perfect wear. Originally could have been used as a valuables box. Price: sold
