These early American lanterns come in all shapes and forms. I think that is what makes them such a delight to collect. Each one is original in design and some of them have the most unusual characteristics. This one caught my eye because of the divided access door. The lantern is nice and early, circa first half of the19th. century. The surface is absolutely original and with the best patina that only years of use can impart. The candle cup is unusual in the way it is mounted and attached onto the bottom of the lantern with its own drip tray. I just love the look of the door. It slide up for access to the candle. There is wear and loss to the heat/smoke shield on the top of the lantern, it is not detracting. Strap iron handle for hanging and carrying. The lantern measures 11 1/4 x 7 x 7 inches. American country lighting at its best. Price: $1395.00 + shipping
