Early 19th. century Blue Beehive Bowl

One of the best true beehive bowls that I have seen in quite some time. I believe the bowl is maple that was lathe turned leaving very thin walls, a prominent foot, and wonderful pronounced beehive rings. The bowl is out of round from shrinkage, measuring 8” – 8 1/2” x 2 1/2” tall. It retains most of the original robin’s egg blue milk paint with losses only from wear on the high places, and it has a very dry surface. There is a small 1 1/2” flaw on the inside that may have been in the wood when the bowl was made. 18th or very early 19th century. Price: sold
