This one is a real looker!! Unusually large wooden tankard with lid. Most likely used to serve Ale. This one is in very good condition with no damage. The lid has some paint that appears to be black or very dark blue. The bottom is chamfered in. The wooden bands are wide, lapped and tucked. I love the form. There are 2 nails (one on each side) that were added over time to secure the bands. It tankard measures 11″ tall, 7″ at the opening, and 8 1/2″ across the bottom. The surface is dry and original. The lid can sit upright on the handle of the tankard but the lid is not attached and never has been. Easily early 19th. century and perhaps earlier. Quite a showpiece for a tavern room or buttery.
