This is an awesome example of an 18th. century doll. It measures about 16 1/2 inches tall. The surface is original with a wonderful patina. During its creation the artist applied glass eyes, rich but simple carving detail that make the appearance pleasing while retaining the form of the bed post. This wonderful piece of folk art has been in a New York collection for many years. American/English folk art at its best. Of course the stand is newer but it holds the doll well and allows for perfect display. If you can notice in the photos there is a little heart on the bed post doll. That heart is not part of the doll. It is not attached. I placed it there for love. It comes right off and will come with the doll if you want it. More information on this doll identifies it as a wooden relic of a doll from circa 1790-1810. there is evidence of nails in the head which would have held a wig. The two small holes in either side at the shoulders would have allowed the arms, made of upper cloth with lower carved wooden arms and hands to be attached. The wooden legs would have been attached through the slots at the lower torso by wooden pins. The head originally had a layer of gesso, which is now worn away. Price: $3275.00 + shipping
