This is one of the best carved birds that I have owned and just a wonderful piece of folk art. It is a near life size grouse and possibly of PA origin since the grouse is the PA State bird. The paint is original with super life-like detail. It has carved wooden eyes with metal legs and feet that are not iron. The legs extend into wooden base to hold the grouse firmly. The measurements are 9 1/2” long x 7 1/2” bird height x 2 1/2” wide. A 3 3/4” x 2 7/8” x 1/2” wooden base. This grouse dates to the late 19th or early 20th century. No issues. It came out of great NY State collection. Price: sold
