This is a bottom of the stack firkin with the best original salmon paint. It has a wooden swing handle w/ button pegs that are secured with square nails. There are 3 fingered bands on the firkin base and on the cover. The 3 firkin bands are fastened with copper tacks and the 1 lid band with iron tacks. The top of the firkin staves are chamfered to fit the lid. Because of the chamfered top edge on the firkin and the iron tacks instead of copper, the lid is most likely an early replacement. The lid fits flat and doesn’t rock. The bands are a little loose but won’t come off. A long piece of the lid rim above the finger lap is missing. The staves are tight. Top diameter is 11” and bottom diameter is 12” and the firkin is 12 1/2” tall. Mid-19th century. Price: sold

I update my merchandise on a regular basis but my big updates are around the end of every month. At that time I send out a slideshow featuring all of my new items. If you would like to receive the slideshow, send me an email and I will add your email address to the release. People on my email release get first peek at all the new monthly items before my ad comes out in the Maine Antique Digest. Most of the inventory I carry is 19th., 18th., and some 17th. century country primitives in original surface. I am an artist and I feature some of my original works on the site as well. I will work with you in any way possible to make your visit and your purchases as pleasant and satisfying as possible.
