A wonderful wooden candlestick, late 17th to early 18th century Pilgrim Period turned wood candlestick in Walnut in its original conditon, still having traces of its original old darkened stain. The candlestick is made of Native Walnut, most likely New England in origin, circa 1680-1720. Brass, Pewter and Silver candlesticks in the colonies were extremely limited and expensive. Local craftsmen of the town made wooden copies for the local town. The wood copies have rarely survived. The candlestick has a turned and stepped round base with a well formed stem with a small drip pan ending in a top candle cup. The surface is a wonderful old dark stain with traces of the original darkened surface. The condition is very nice, just surface abrasions you would expect from over 300 years of use. There is the typical burn wear to the top of the candle cup. The candle stick measures 8 1/2 inches tall and the base measures about 6 1/4 inches.Price: sold
