This is quite a lovely and unusual lantern. Circa mid 19th. century and having the most unusual candle cup access. It is by turning the candle cup on the underside of the lantern that releases the candle cup to remove or light the candle. Put candle cup back in and twist and lock. The lantern is made with hand cut screws. The side columns are mortised thru the top and bottom of the lantern. The structure of this lantern is so solid and secure. The heat cap on the top of the lantern is of a modified wedding cake design. This lighting arrangement allows for maximum exposure of glass for maximum lighting effect. The lantern is in its original patina and in excellent condition. The lantern measures 16 x 6 x 6 inches. American lantern in excellent condition. Price: sold
