A real survivor is this very rare Pilgrim period American wood lighting trammel. These wooden lighting trammels were made by hand and used in early homes to hand fat lamps from for light. Once forged iron became readily available, wooden trammels were replaced and most often burned in a fireplace. This trammel is all original except leather thongs are replacements. The original ones didn’t stand up to the test of time. It has great wear with chips and dings and small missing pieces of wood from use and wear from the wire hangers that were used once the original leather thongs that wore out. The trammel is a rare small size being only 13” closed. It has the original forged iron hangers. There are height adjustment holes on one half and varying depth notches on other. The double Crusie fat lamp is included. C.1680-1740. Price: sold
