A late 19th century Steiff, pull toy donkey on its original cast iron wheels. The donkey measures 15″ tall, 19″ long and 7″ wide at the wheels. Felt covered over straw, he’s 100% original. This sweet donkey has been well loved and shows wear. First, the tail is missing. The seam has opened along the back. One ear also needs some repair. Finally, there are four corn kernel sized holes in the felt on the face, one above each eye and one at each nostril. Aside from stitching up the back seam and the ear, I’d leave this piece as is –it shows wear and tear that the years of love and play have imparted. This is a hard to find Steiff pull toy donkey. Steiff began making donkeys in 1892 but did not start inserting buttons in the ear until 1904. This sweet little guy is pre 1904. Price: sold
