This is such an exceptional and sweet miniature piece of treen. A runlet/keg, more than likely it was used for rum/ whiskey. Completely original painted surface that is 80% + there. The only apology is it doesn’t have its stopper, the one you see is a replacement, I believe the stopper was originally cork just by looking at the out of round hole, a wood stopper would not have fit tight to hold a liquid. The colors are blue, red and mustard. This is a East Coast, possibly New England or Pennsylvania. The runlet is small in size, measuring 4” tall 3 3/8” X 3” oval. It was made by a Cooper. Dated 1824 on one side and initialed on the other. Fabulous original painted surface. It is not staved. but coopered which was truly a skill back then as it is now. You can see where the seam runs end to end, there is no separation at the seam very tight for being 200 years old. It was a flat piece of wood and a cooper would have steamed it and formed it to give its oval body and attached the ends together, then at that point put the ends caps on. It was quite a process and very time consuming and I’m sure a lot of work. This piece has character, history and intrinsic beauty. Price: $995.00 + shipping
