This is a great piece of lighting, not often seen. This piece was meant to attach to a wall or hearth. You can see on the original back plate there are two holes for attaching it to the wall. I have added that Red piece of wood thinking it might be easier to hang that way. That comes right off by removing the two screws–so no harm. The light has a long extension. There are three arm that open out, one measures 14 inches and the other two measure 22 inches. So about a 36 inch extension. The candle holder at the end of the light measures 3 x 1 /2 inches and the original back plate measures 6 x 1 1/2 x 1 3/4 inches. The surface is original and all the arms are connected with wooden pins. American wall light circa late 19th. century. Price: sold
