A very special piece. Quite unusual in size as it measures only 8 3/4 x 5 x 4 1/2 inches. This sweet little box has the best painted surface of original Mustard paint. The wall box has excellent provenance from the Bob Jessen and Jim Hohnwald collection (Jim Bob). Circa early 19th. century. The small nature of this box suggests that it may have been used as a wall tinder box. Wall tinder boxes were hung near the hearth to store the necessary flint, striker and tow needed to start the fire. They were not used as the “working” table tinders where there was actually a small compartment in which to start the fire. Price: sold
